Obtain a battery certificate
-
If you are thinking of selling your electric vehicle, particularly to a private buyer, it is strongly recommended that you have your battery certified.
This certification offers peace of mind for both you and potential buyers, by guaranteeing the condition of your battery and attesting to your honesty.
The battery is the central component of an electric car, and its repair or replacement can entail considerable costs, sometimes running into tens of thousands of euros. Thanks to the secure battery certificate, issued by a trusted third party, you provide total transparency, making it much easier to sell your electric vehicle in complete confidence.
-
To receive your certificate, you need to order our Certification Kit and carry out the diagnosis of your electric car. The diagnosis is quick and easy to carry out: it only takes 5 minutes. Once your car has been diagnosed, send us the Moba box using the pre-stamped return envelope provided in the Kit. As soon as you’ve sent the envelope, we’ll email you the digital version. As an option, you can obtain a printed version of your battery certificate.
-
Once you have received your Kit, follow these simple steps:
- Consult the paper tutorial provided in the Certification Kit.
- Download the Moba CertifyPro application from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect to the application using the e-mail address you provided when you placed your order.
- Follow the steps in the digital tutorial to connect your Moba box to your vehicle’s OBDII socket.
- Once the box is connected, run the diagnostics
- Don’t forget to return the Moba box to us to obtain your certificate.
These simple steps will enable you to carry out the diagnosis of your battery efficiently.
-
Only €49 (excluding Kit shipping costs). Once you’ve ordered the Kit, there’s nothing left to pay. We’ll cover the cost of returning the case and sending the certificate.
Please note that the battery certificate for a Tesla Model 3 is sold at a price of 59 euros, unlike a standard certificate (sold at 49 euros). The reason for this price difference lies in the composition and delivery of the kit. The Tesla Model 3 battery diagnostic kit includes more equipment than a conventional diagnostic kit (adapter, specific tools, etc.). As the kit is heavier, it also means higher delivery costs.

You have 14 days from receipt of your order to return your product to us.
To make a return, simply send us your request to support@get-moba.com.

We do our utmost to make our solutions compatible with as many electric cars as possible as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, your vehicle may not yet be supported by our certification kit. Would you like to be notified as soon as your model is supported? Fill in this form.
The traction battery and its ageing
-
An electric vehicle has two batteries: a 12V battery for certain accessories, equivalent to the battery used in internal combustion vehicles, and a traction battery (or battery pack), which powers the car’s electric motor. The traction battery is made up of dozens of small batteries, called cells, connected together. All these cells are controlled by a software program called the Battery Management System.
The battery is the central component of an electric car. It determines its performance and value.
-
The BMS, for Battery Management System*, is the software that controls the various cells in the pack so that they charge and discharge evenly. When the cells deteriorate, the BMS programme may no longer allow the pack to be managed optimally. This poor management limits the electrical energy that can be supplied by the traction battery, resulting in a significant drop in SOH and a fall in range. Some vehicles, such as the Renault Zoé, allow the BMS to be reprogrammed. Reprogramming the BMS enables the software to be updated with an algorithm that takes account of the actual state of chemical degradation of the cells. This enables better management of the pack and therefore an increase in range.
For two traction batteries with an identical State of Health (SOH), it is advisable to pay attention to the number of reprogrammings: a battery with many BMS updates may reflect advanced ageing: the SOH is likely to fall more rapidly.
-
As an electric vehicle ages, it loses range. This loss of range is due to the chemical degradation of the cells that make up the battery pack. This phenomenon, known as ageing, is highly dependent on the conditions in which the vehicle is used and stored. For example, high temperatures and rapid charging accelerate the ageing of traction batteries.
We strongly advise you to pay close attention to the condition of your battery by adopting appropriate practices in terms of recharging, storage and the way you drive your vehicle.
-
The State of Health* (SOH) provides an indication of the state of degradation of traction batteries. It represents the proportion between the maximum electrical energy a battery can supply at a given time and the maximum electrical energy it could supply when it left the factory. In general, the warranties offered by manufacturers guarantee a minimum level of SOH for a specific period (often 8 years) or for a specific mileage (often 160,000 km).
Practical information on using the Moba device
-
Our device connects to your vehicle’s OBDII diagnostic socket, which is designed to perform automotive diagnostics and analysis. All vehicles put on the road after 2001 are equipped with a diagnostic socket inside the passenger compartment.
However, the precise location of this socket varies according to the vehicle model. It may be located under the steering wheel, opposite the handbrake lever, or near the steering wheel. There’s no need to worry: we’ll show you the exact location of your vehicle’s OBDII socket using the tutorial available in the Moba CertifyPro.
-
The Moba device is connected to your smartphone using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This connection is automatic: you don’t need to pair the device in your Bluetooth settings. If your Bluetooth is activated, and the device is plugged into your OBDII socket, the connection will take place naturally and automatically as soon as you click on “Connect device”.
If nothing happens, check in your settings that you authorize the application to access your location and cellular data.
Make sure you have switched on your vehicle’s ignition and engine, and if you need an adapter, that it is plugged in properly.
Note: For owners of an Apple phone or tablet, you must authorize access to your location “When the app is active”.
-
Our Moba device is simply a reader; it can only communicate with your vehicle to gather the information you need using the Moba application. Under no circumstances can it modify or change your vehicle’s settings.
So there’s no risk, and you can plug in our device without fear! However, we would advise you not to leave your Moba device connected to your diagnostic socket when your vehicle is parked.
