The Renault Zoé is equipped with lithium-ion batteries using nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cathodes. The batteries are assembled in modules, which are then connected to form a complete battery. The number of modules varies according to battery capacity.

In order to offer greater autonomy on the ZOE 50, Renault’s engineering team worked with its supplier, LG Chem, on the format and layout of the battery. Their joint work showed that it was possible to increase storage density by developing cells slightly higher than the usual format. With a usable capacity of 52 kWh, the ZOE 50’s lithium-ion battery is made up of 12 modules and 192 cells, and features a high-capacity anode enabling it to achieve EV driving distances comparable to those of internal combustion engine vehicles.

One of its key features is the safety-enhanced battery separator film, a nano-ceramic coating that enhances the durability and thermal resistance of the batteries, as well as the safety of the batteries in the cells. The battery pack weighs a total of 326 kilos, and delivers a range of up to 395 km in the WLTP cycle.

The Renault Zoe R110 is powered by an 80 kW (109 hp) electric motor with 225 Nm of torque.
